twine makes it easy for Zoom hosts to create connection by enabling advanced breakout rooms and speed networking.

When youโ€™re looking for more control over who in your meeting meets with whom, A+B matching puts the power into the hands of the host. Select two variables across your audience and pair them off for an intentional, curated discussion.

How to Setup & Run A+B Matching:

  1. Select any participants from your participant list that you wish to exclude from the matchmaking. Participants will remain excluded until you re-include them.

  2. From the home screen, click "Create a Breakout"

  3. Select "A+B Matching" from the left hand menu

  4. On this next screen, input your A+B Matching settings and click "Save" to save your breakout settings as a template or "Launch" to start the breakout rooms

    • Round timer: how long you want each round of conversation to last

    • Group size: the number of participants in each conversation per round

    • Create tags: these are the two tags that you wish to use to categorize your participants (i.e Mentor, mentee)

    • Strict Matching: Strict matching ensures that guests are never matched with others of the same tag. If this setting is turned on and there are not enough participants to create even matches, participants will be left in the main room with the host.

  5. At this point, all participants that are in the app are shown a prompt to select one of the tags:

  6. As the host, you are shown a selection screen where you can see the tag selection status of all your attendees.

On this screen, you will see three sections:

    • Match Details: This is a summary of all your settings

    • Selected Tags: the total number of participants who've selected each tag

    • Participants: this section displays participants who are still selecting tags, participants who are not in the app, where you will assign a tag for them.

  7. Once all participants have selected or been assigned a tag, you can click "Start Matchmaking". Participants are automatically placed into rounds of conversations based on your settings and their tags.

  8. In the breakout rooms, attendees are shown each other's tags

  9. These rounds will continue until you click "End Matchmaking" and bring everyone back to the main room.

๐Ÿ’ก PRO TIP: A+B mode allows you to tag participants who do not have the app, so they can experience the matches regardless of whether or not they are in the app. However, participants without the app will not see the countdown timer so the transition between rounds can be unexpected for them.

We recommend using the Zoom's "Broadcast Message to All" to let all attendees know when there is 30 seconds left in each round.
