Prerequisites

  • An active Ambient account with API access enabled

  • A Claude Pro, Team, or Enterprise account

  • Your Ambient MCP server URL (found in Ambient under Account Settings > Ambient API)

Don't see the API section in your account? Submit a request to support@ambient.us and we'll get you enabled.

Setup (2 minutes)

  1. Copy your MCP server URL from Ambient

Go to Account Settings > Ambient API and copy the MCP server URL.

  2. Open Claude and navigate to Connectors

In Claude, go to Customize > Connectors. You may already have connectors set up for Gmail, Google Calendar, Drive, Slack, or other tools.

  3. Add Ambient as a custom connector

Click Add Custom Connector, name it Ambient, and paste your MCP server URL. You can ignore the event settings. Click Add.

  4. Connect and authenticate

Click on the Ambient connector, then click Connect. You'll be prompted to authenticate your Ambient account. Click Approve, and you'll be brought back to Claude. The connector is now active.

  5. (Recommended) Set tools to "Always Allow"

For a smoother experience, set the Ambient tools to always allow. This is safe because Ambient's MCP connection is read-only and does not write data back to your account.

Verify it's working

Start a new chat and try a prompt like:

  • "What are my action items from this morning's exec staff meeting?"

  • "Summarize my meetings from this week."

  • "Pull all meetings with @companydomain.com."

You should see Claude call the Ambient tools and return results from your meeting data.

Works across Claude products

This setup works inside Claude (web/app), Claude Cowork, and Claude Code. Claude was built by the team that created the MCP standard, so it offers the best native experience for interacting with Ambient's MCP server.

Starter prompts to try

  • "What were my action items from [meeting name]?"

  • "Find all meetings with @companydomain.com"

  • "Summarize what was discussed with jane@company.com this month"

  • "Pull the transcript from my 1:1 with [person] on Tuesday"

  • "What's the latest on [project name]?"

  • "Help me draft a follow-up email based on my meeting with [person]"

Tips

  • Combine with other connectors. Ambient works great alongside Slack, Gmail, and Calendar connectors. Ask Claude to pull meeting context from Ambient, draft an email via Gmail, and check your calendar for follow-ups, all in one chat.

  • Watch the tool calls. As Claude works, you can see what it's searching and what data Ambient returns. This helps you build an intuition for how to prompt effectively.

  • Keep trying. If you don't get the right results on the first attempt, refine your prompt. The more specific you are (person, date, topic), the better the results.

Troubleshooting

Issue

Fix

Connector shows "Not Connected"

Click the connector and re-authenticate

No results returned

Make sure the meeting was recorded and processed in Ambient

Domain search not working

Use just the domain (e.g., acme.com), not @acme.com

Tools require approval each time

Set Ambient tools to "Always Allow" in connector settings
